Things were different back in those days. If the woman operating the Portland telephone swithboard got a
call for Fred Sr., she would first look out the window to see if Fred was at the diner across the street. If Fred
was there, she would send the call to the diner. Otherwise, she would send it to the factory.
Notice the phone number on the Duckloe sign. It reads:
