Finishing Techniques

  1. We fill all holes, nicks and dents with putty, then sand smooth with 180 grit sand paper.
  2. We apply a coat of toner to provide the base color. The toner is methanol-based and contains different color dyes. It dries in a few seconds.
  3. We apply a thin down coat of sealer to establish an even color.
  4. We apply a spray coat of wiping stain and remove the excess with soft rags. This step gives depth and patina to the piece.
  5. The furniture piece is allowed to dry overnight.
  6. We apply a coat of vinyl sealer.
  7. We sand the piece with 240 sandpaper.
  8. We rubbed down the piece with 00 steel wool.
  9. We apply 2 coats of Pre-Catalized lacquer (sanded between coats).
  10. We let the piece dry for 2 to 3 hours.
  11. We hand rub the entire piece with 0000 steel wool.
  12. Finally we apply a rubbing compound and polish to the piece. This imparts a smooth and glowing finish to a piece which anyone would be proud to own.
